The average cost of a kitchen refinish will vary greatly depending on the size of the kitchen and specific features. However, our average projects will cost typically between $5,000 to $9,000.
We book the majority of our jobs for a 2 week period, with the goal of completing a little early. Some of those days we will be exclusively working at our shop, but we do ask to make sure the home is available for us to work during the scheduled days as we work on a tight deadline. We will set the schedule with the homeowner in advance. On occasion, jobs may be booked for a 3 week period, but all details will be set prior to starting the job.
All of our quoted pricing is based on the per cabinet "face" count on the combined cabinets. Each door, drawer, and cabinet box side panel or island panel is considered a "face". The combined number of faces are broken down by cost on our provided pricing quote. Additional costs such as drilling and/or filling holes for new hardware or other specific features may be outlined in the pricing quote.
All we ask is prior to our arrival that all countertop appliances and other loose kitchen items are stored until the job is complete. This will help us be the most efficient with our time and help us ensure the safety of those items.
There is no need to empty the contents of your cabinets or drawers as we will be covering the openings to protect them from spray and dust.
Once we begin the in home work portion, we will be covering all appliances in the kitchen area, so we do ask that you do not cook or use the appliances in the kitchen during the scheduled job timeframe. Upon request we will be able to open the refrigerator between work days, but a temporary or secondary refrigerator is always best case scenario.
Once we have completed the project, because of our smooth top coat, all that will be necessary for cleaning will be warm water and a non-abrasive cloth. It the case of heavy dirt build up, a small amount of dawn dish soap with warm water is sufficient. DO NOT use any chemical cleaners or abrasive sponges as you can damage the top coat.
Hardwood cabinets are expensive! Let’s just start there. Generally, most homes were built with hardwood cabinets in the kitchen’s, baths, and laundry because they last. Whether they be oak, hickory, maple, or cherry as the most common types of hardwood cabinets. With Cabinet Couture, we are able to preserve your quality hardwood cabinets, while transforming the space at a fraction of the cost of replacing.
We pride ourselves on our highly detailed processes, and believe that is main area that sets us apart from a regular painter. Our goal is not to rush, but to make sure the final outcome is the BEST it can be. Our shop, tools, spray booth, and techniques are all designed specifically for refinishing only cabinets. In our opinion, the only way to produce a like new, factory smooth final product is to obsess with the details. We only use top of the line industrial cabinet coatings, always sprayed, never rolled or brushed. Every inch of cabinet door, drawer, and box are deep cleaned, meticulously inspected and repaired, and sanded before and in-between every coat. Only then is our industrial grade tinted top coat sprayed to obtain ultimate durability, smoothness, and longevity.
In today’s age of increased prices, hardwood cabinets are more expensive than ever. Typically, in the 20k-50k range for medium to large size kitchens, many times even more. Plus the cost of a major tear-out and install in your kitchen. The timeline and cost of this type of project usually adds up to more than the homeowner is looking to spend on their update. Cabinet Couture can transform the look of your kitchen without the hassle and cost of a major renovation.
Another option provided to homeowners when looking to update their cabinets is referred to as “Refacing”. A cabinet refacer will provide you with new, pre-painted, doors and drawers mounted to your existing cabinet box frames. They will then affix colored vinyl stickers to the edges and side panels of your existing cabinet box frames to match the color of the new doors and drawers. All bias aside, we are not fans of updating cabinets by attaching colored stickers to the sides and edges! Plus, this option is generally in the dollar range of 10k-20k or more, just for medium sized kitchens.
Recently, over the last 5-10 years there has been a bad trend of homeowners replacing their hardwood cabinets with lesser quality cabinets such as MDF (medium-density fiberboard), HDF (high-density fiberboard), and other composite faux wood products. These cabinets come at a fraction of the cost of hardwood cabinets and typically come in several pre-painted colors. Fiberboards and composite are basically compressed cardboard, not real wood, and do not hold up to the moisture and daily use that cabinets receive. As time and wear goes on, composite woods will receive moisture, and what happens when cardboard gets wet? It expands, and is never able to return to its original state, leaving permanent damage on the face of the doors, drawers, and box frames only to continue to get worse over time. Fiberboard cabinets will actually lower the value of a home, instead of the desired intention of increasing the value.
Our goal is to pass along our first hand experience to help you make the best decision for your home. Trust your cabinets with real professionals at Cabinet Couture!
